That Is Not Who You Are

You are not your sin!

"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come." - 2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV

You are not the sum total of what you have done. You are not limited to the genetics you have been given. You are the total of what Jesus has done.

'I am a liar.' ---- No. You are not.
'I can't be monogamous.' ---- A lie. A false identity based on lies.
'I am fearful.'
'I am a loser.'
'I am an angry person.'
'I can't finish anything.' ---- Not true. None of it is.

A new identity has come. You and I have been reinventing in Christ.

"So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus." - Romans 6:11 ESV

"There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus." - Romans 8:1 ESV

"I give thanks to my God always for you because of the grace of God that was given you in Christ Jesus," - 1 Corinthians 1:4 ESV

"And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption," - 1 Corinthians 1:30 ESV

"For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive." - 1 Corinthians 15:22 ESV

"for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith." - Galatians 3:26 ESV

"For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them." - Ephesians 2:10 ESV

"But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ." - Ephesians 2:13 ESV

In Christ, you have a new identity. Without Him, you won't know who you really are.

If you think you are a liar you will keep on lying. That is what liars do. If you are a drunk then alcohol will have power and appeal because it will validate who you think you are. When you think what God thinks you function in a new dynamic. That new identity has a new freedom.

You are royalty. Have the mind of a king (or if you are a woman -- a queen). Think like royalty. Plan like royalty. Your royalty is a gift and that will keep you humble. Cast down the old identity.

Those who never know Christ will one day discover that their sin killed them. The results of their autopsy will be their identity forever. Each nick, bruise and wound will be noted as evidence in a criminal investigation.

Anyone who knows Christ will never die. Their soul will live forever. Jesus already died in our place and now we live forever in Him.
