Identification And Detachment - Colossians - Part 17

"If with Christ you died..." - Colossians 2:20a ESV

"If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God." - Colossians 3:1-3 ESV

Transitioning from chapter two to chapter three brought back to remembrance a series I taught in April of 2012 we taught a series on 'Identification and Detachment.' It was back when I was doing radio and before I started the blog. This morning I'm reading and reviewing that material.

Identification with Christ's death detaches us in a unique way. God sees us as detached. Death ends a chapter.

The identification with Christ's resurrection and life associates us in a unique way that is outside of our personality, genetics or upbringing. Nuture and nature are overwhelmed and we are baptized into new life.

Setting our minds on things that are above is us agreeing with God on a fundamental level. It isn't just thinking about Heaven and what that will be like. It is connecting and disconnecting. It is 'reckoning' now, today, right this moment in a new identity.

It is the mindset of an ambassador. We are here on earth but our home is an embassy. We speak the language of our country inside it's walls. We are aware of the current events back home.

Like an immigrant we can lose our native accent as we identify with the culture we are immersed in. I want my voice to have Heaven's accent. God, Help us to disassociate and connect as we should so that we can be good ambassadors. We want to represent your kingdom in integrity. Thank You God.
