I want to be strong in the basics.
The columns that hold up our thinking must be strong... free of rot... free of termites or cracks. It is good to walk around slowly and prayerfully and survey the structure. Does the roof leak... the gutters... the windows... looking where the structure has settled and needs attention... is the basement dry... will the porch hold weight.
It is easy to go off on a journey in our thinking and leave our home unattended and to chase the grey areas but it is in rooms we live in that the form the tone of our lives. If they are cluttered and falling down that bleeds out into the rest of our life. Tight clear thinking that is defined and formed by the eternal is such a resource... not rigid thinking... flexible toned thinking.
"For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven." - Psalms 119:89 KJV
"Brothers, do not be children in your thinking. Be infants in evil, but in your thinking be mature." - 1 Corinthians 14:20 ESV
"But God's firm foundation stands" - 2 Timothy 2:19a ESV
Perhaps upon inspection we see that our structure is wrong... it wasn't based on who Christ Is and what He has done... grace is not the measure it was measured with... the windows don't catch the light so that we can see clearly from inside. The bushes need to be trimmed... the dead tree needs to be removed.
People often live with broken things. They have long complex work routes to get somewhere because they can't or won't fix what is broken. Often the fix is simple if they just return to the basics and repair the things that hold everything else in place.
