Acting On Wisdom From Above

This weekend was very rich. Great fellowship, touching fresh messages and good news from far away places. There are many thoughts that are fresh in my still awakening mind this morning. Spices that might not mix together into one dish. They will need separate applications to be palatable.

One clear idea is the concept of acting on what we know to be true. Action by faith brings a kind of satisfaction. The thought has fulfilled a purpose when it is brought to a place of action. Like a musician who plays their instrument. There is a satisfaction in the exercise versus seeing the instrument gather dust in a corner day after day.

"Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom. But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth. This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice. But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere. And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace." - James 3:13-18 ESV

Wisdom from below demands action... revenge, recognition, shame and ego... if we feed that fire the flames will hurt others and we will embrace the burning in our own bosom.

Wisdom from above is grace based. Is does not drive us or promote comparison. It waits in gentleness. It acts in earnestness. It is fruit that has seed that follows a cycle of death, burial and resurrection like the wheat that falls to the ground and seems to die when in truth it's burial will mean a multiplication of life.

Today is another day. We can put another log on the fire of the flesh or we can have the light of an eternal flame fed by the oil of God's eternal Spirit. Which one will light our path today? Will we be timid thinkers or peaceful people who walk and step into faith?

God, Move us today. Move us in wisdom from above. Move us in mercy and compassion. Fills us. Help us. Enlighten our minds. We want to go where you are going and see what you are doing. We purpose to be about our Father's business today.
