A Global Perspective

Studying passages that pertain to Christ's second coming and marveling at the small details that are present.

Take this passage...

"Even so will it be in the day when the Son of Man is revealed. 'In that day, he who is on the housetop, and his goods are in the house, let him not come down to take them away. And likewise the one who is in the field, let him not turn back. Remember Lot's wife. Whoever seeks to save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it. I tell you, in that night there will be two men in one bed: the one will be taken and the other will be left. Two women will be grinding together: the one will be taken and the other left. Two men will be in the field: the one will be taken and the other left.' " - Luke 17:30-36 NKJV

Many quote this as a rapture passage but it is actually speaking of Christ's second coming if we look at the context and Greek words. 'Taken' is paralambano (Strong's G3880) and according to John Walvood it is 'an association' and not a rapture.

What strikes me is the global nature of the event described. Some are sleeping and others are working. This isn't figurative language. It speaks of time zones. Jesus will return and people all over the world will know it and make decisions based upon their predispositions.

Just a small thought but it blessed me. The Bible was written with a global perspective. It isn't a book written by locals with a narrow view. It is a book inspired by the God of the universe who sees all time and space because it is His creation.
