Catharsis

"For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, being ready to punish every disobedience, when your obedience is complete." - 2 Corinthians 10:4-6 ESV

The Greek word in verse 4 & 5 translated 'destroy' is kathairesis (Strong's G2506). Is where we get the word catharsis which is means purge.

I imagine all those summer mornings I spent as a child cleaning off the sidewalk with a hose. It worked so much better than a broom and dustpan. All the muck, grime and sand was just washed down the drain.

God has given us words of divine power that purge.

When truth has washed everything thoroughly then we do what needs to be done.
