Blessing and Cursing

In secular modern American society we see success and failure as being based on talent, effort and opportunity. There are powers that might help or hinder us but those powers are political and economic.

Religion and spirituality can be seen as the realm of blessing and cursing. Magic has those overtones as well. The Bible speaks clearly about this subject and it is very clear in it's teaching.

"My father peradventure will feel me, and I shall seem to him as a deceiver; and I shall bring a curse upon me, and not a blessing." Genesis 27:12 KJV

Maybe we have seen God this way? This is how Adam and Eve saw God after the fall. It is simpler to look for ways around the blessing.

"Nevertheless the LORD thy God would not hearken unto Balaam; but the LORD thy God turned the curse into a blessing unto thee, because the LORD thy God loved thee." Deuteronomy 23:5 KJV

God's mind is one of blessing. He desires to bless all those that belong to Him. He is for us not against us.

"Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind. Do not repay evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary, bless, for to this you were called, that you may obtain a blessing." 1 Peter 3:8-9 ESV

There is much to say on this subject. How blessing are not just material in nature. How Christ is the blessed one and all that are in Christ are blessed ones. How favor is not connected to performance.

What about today? Is God for me and you? Any correct understanding of grace will say, 'Yes, He Is.' God is for us knowing Him. God wants us to live in a realm of blessing today.

"But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him." Hebrews 11:6 NKJV

If this thought is action in our minds and we are stirred up in love in our heart there really is no telling what the day will bring. We can be ready to face anything that comes.

This kind of believing is an active thing. Is shields us from the corrosive effects of doubt that a passive mind will begin to entertain by default.

Life is going to continually fork into crossroads and we can step forward by faith prayerfully and confidently if our mindset is...
