Doers Not Ruminators

A recent talk between two secular scientists honed my understanding of this great insightful passage...

James 1:22-25 ESV — "But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing."

Person who intently looks at themselves = Ruminator

Doer = Person who is aware of what is around them and acting on what is 'real'

This was such a rhema for me early this morning. Rumination paralyzes some of us or get us to put the 'blinders' on. We stop seeing the big picture and freely living in the moment appreciative and aware of what is happening around us.

Looking to 'intently' at your natural face makes you forget who God says you are! It displaces the great commandment and the great commission. You find things to regret and fix or even worse you take credit for things that you have no business being proud of.

A doer can be driven and striving but a 'doer of HIS word of grace and in grace' won't be. They cast down vain imaginations and high things that exalt themselves against the glorious revealing of God.

No flow of the word means no compass... no vision... nothing to take us out of ourselves in a durable way.
