The Armor Of Light

"Besides this you know the time, that the hour has come for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed. The night is far gone; the day is at hand. So then let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us walk properly as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in quarreling and jealousy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires." - Romans 13:11-14 ESV

Sleepless night seasons can seem so long. In darkness there is nothing to measure the time against. But when the dawn comes perspective comes also. A glimpse of the grace of God in the face of Jesus Christ has given all that believe in Him perspective.

The light of truth becomes armor. Eternal security to protect our thinking. The righteousness of Christ is given to protect our heart. A belt of truth so that we can run the race. Good news gives us fleet feet. Faith as a shield and a spiritual sword.

Many of us have lived years and years in the perspectiveless darkness of a night that seemed to never end. No more. No more.

We are redeemed and our body will soon follow but our soul can cleave to the dust it came from. When we put on Christ by faith we are cut off from that night time provision so that we can live as children of the day.

"But you are not in darkness, brothers, for that day to surprise you like a thief. For you are all children of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness. So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, are drunk at night. But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation. For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us so that whether we are awake or asleep we might live with him." - 1 Thessalonians 5:4-10 ESV

Awaken us today God. Awaken us to grace as the sun begins to shine in our heart. Brighten our steps. Enlighten our minds. Let the night fade away as we live in the light of your love.
